RADCLIFFE AC ladies scored a superb double success at the North of England 10k Championships.

Fiona Lynch, Katie Percival and Jenny Yates were the third-placed ladies' team at Sunday’s event which is incorporated into the popular Ribble Valley 10k.

And it was double delight for Lynch and Yates who were part of the winning ladies' vets team, along with Paula Abernethy.

They will be presented with their prizes later this month.

There was a strong turnout for the club, with runners who are affiliated to Northern Athletics eligible to take part in the North of England Championships.

Lynch was first home for Radcliffe and fourth vet-40 in 41mins 33secs, while Percival ran 42:29, Yates, who was fourth vet-50, finished in 43:38 and Abernethy ran 47:04 to claim ninth vet-50.

Other results: Mauro Rotondi 45:25, Nick Barnes 50:35, Amanda Hey 51:51 (10th vet-55), Kathryn Davies 53:43 (13th vet-55), Caroline Malone 55:30, Peter Warr 55:34, Helen Sandiford 56:35, Lisa Donnelly 1:04:34, Christine Berry 1:11:46.

Elsewhere, Radcliffe AC members wasted no time in burning off the Christmas calories by turning in more great performances over the festive period.

Five members took part in the traditional Whinberry Naze Dash on Boxing Day.

A total of 276 runners tackled the straight up-and-down fell race above Rawtenstall – many of them in fancy dress – and were rewarded with a tube of Smarties at the top from Santa.

Lynch continued her great form and was first home for the club after covering the four-mile course and 750 feet of ascent in a personal-best time of 34:19.

In poor visibility, Lisa Carter knocked a massive three minutes off her PB, finishing in 39:00.

They were joined by Mark Wolfenden, Karen Doherty and Lisa Donnelly, who enjoyed her first fell race.

Six Radcliffe members got Christmas Day off to a flying start at a special parkrun at Worsley Woods.

Percival finished fourth female in 21:13 and Yates was 11th female in 21:57.

Also taking part were: Mark Garner (21:12 – PB), Rob Lister (23:31), Debi Warrington (29:19) and Ian Warrington (29:20), running with his wife.

In the regular Saturday morning parkruns, several members helped Debi Warrington to celebrate her birthday by joining her at Heaton Park.

They toasted her big day and time of 33:24 with Prosecco.
