RADCLIFFE AC’s Craig Norman got 2019 off to a flying start when he finished third in the Holcombe Howler Trail 10k.

He received a trophy after completing the challenging course, which takes in the stunning trails of Holcombe Moor above Bury, in 53mins 11secs.

Peter Cook also did the 10k in 1:05:00 – his first race for the club – while two members ran the Holcombe Howler Trail Half Marathon which took place at the same time.

Dave Rushton finished in 1:56:54 and Sharon Peterkin ran 3:34:37 – after completing a seven-mile run before the race as part of her marathon training.

Neal Emmerson flew the flag for Radcliffe at the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships which are open to runners who were born in or live in the county.

Emmerson, who is originally from Leeds, finished a fine 78th out of 280 in the senior men’s race at Lightwater Valley Theme Park near Ripon.

He described the dry but undulating 10.2k course as “tough”, finishing in 37:57.

Several members hit 2019 running by taking part in special New Year’s Day parkruns.

Husband and wife Peter and Sheila McNulty took on England’s highest and hilliest parkrun – Whinlatter Forest in the Lake District. Peter was first vet-60 in 25:06 and Sheila clocked 34:06.

It was another family affair for the Barringtons at Hastings where Paul ran 21:05, junior Noah clocked 25:19 and Deborah finished in 32:42.

Jenny Yates celebrated her January 1 birthday by finishing sixth woman at Oldham parkrun in 22:05, while Caroline Malone clocked 28:00.

Two members did the double by running two parkruns on the same day. Sheila Jones ran 24:13 to finish ninth woman and first V60 at Blackpool. She then achieved the same position by running 24:39 at Lytham Hall.

Lisa Donnelly ran 36:33 at Watergrove in Rochdale followed by 33:43 at Bolton.
