DAVID Vaughan was Bury’s sole competitor at the Northern Athletics Indoor meeting in Sheffield on Saturday. Competing against seniors Vaughan, an under-17, put in some great performances.

He took second in the triple jump with a best effort of 11.86metres and was also fifth in his heat of the 150m, setting a new personal-best time of 19.0secs.

On Sunday, Ben Coop competed in the Preston 10-mile race around the country lanes of Hutton.

Coop ran strongly and took 14th place in a strong field in a time of 54mins 30secs – only 11 seconds off his PB.

Parker set a new best over the distance of 1:45:06, while Hitchin finished first o70 in the creditable time of 1:54:56.

Bury’s young athletes competed in the Greater Manchester Sportshall League and there were plenty of good performances for club members.

On a generally quiet weekend for senior competition, Bury fielded a number of runners in the parkrun at Heaton Park.

Luke Harreld took second in 17:20, just ahead of third-placed Byron Edwards (17:24) with Paul Johnson in seventh in 18:21.

Sarah Thomas was first woman finisher (19:46) with Katie Geelan third (20:13) and Nicola Ryan fourth in a new PB of 20:36.
