Prestwich Heys made a losing start to their pre-season preparations as they were beaten 3-1 at CMB Sports on Saturday.

However, despite the setback there were many positives to take from the game. Manager Matt Barnes will have been pleased with the overall performance after giving five players from the cup-winning youth side an outing alongside two trialists.

There were also debuts for new signings Sam Dickinson and Tayler Share alongside Lee Grimshaw, who has returned to the club having been top scorer in the 2018-19 season.

A further boost came in the return of Jamie Hill and Niall Sultan, both on the way back from long-term injuries.

In warm conditions they game was a lively affair which ebbed and flowed before the West Lancashire League Premier Division hosts took the spoils.

After Heys had been denied by a goal-line clearance and CMB the post, the deadlock was broken by the home side in the 37th minute by Dylan Winstanley.

A Heys trialist levelled the scores with a half-volley in the 52nd minute before a raft of substitutions saw the game become a little fractured.

Dan Crook put CMB back in front from the spot on 67 minutes before scoring a second penalty 10 minutes later.

Heys return to action on Saturday at Silsden.
