BURY AC’s Emily Purdy continued with her winning ways at the South East Lancs Cross Country League races at Heaton Park.

In the under-15 girls’ race she was first and is establishing a reputation as one of the finest cross-country runners in the region.

In the u11 girls’ race Bury had a team that was well led by Lucy Dent who took an excellent second place. With Erin Hudson in eighth and Layla Halton in 34th, the Bury team took fourth. Ruby Dent also competed, taking 41st place.

Harrison Burgess was Bury’s only competitor in the u11 boys’ race and finished 14th, while two senior men competed for Bury - Ian Warrington running strongly to take 31st and Dave Flood finishing 123rd.

Bury AC provided the fastest male and female finishers at the parkrun at Heaton Park.

Sixteen-year-old Sam Smyth was first finisher in 17mins 43secs with 17-year-old Freya Potts first woman in 19:52. The other Bury finishers included Paul Johnston (18:29), Sarah Thomas (20:53), Brian Thomas (21:21), Caitlyn Johnston (21:33), Lewis Whittaker (21:49), Susan Wheeldon-Gorst (24:33) and new member Sudhanshu Sharma (24:41 PB).

At the Peel Parkrun, Andy Mellor took second in 16:50, followed by Dominic Nabb in fourth in 17:40. Giles Bennett ran 19:06 at the Stretford Parkrun and was first M55-59 finisher.

On Sunday, Craig Sykes competed in the Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash and crossed the line in 249th place out of more than 2,700 finishers and his time of 37:15 placed him ninth in the M50 age category. Irfan Qureshi completed the Liverpool Rock and Roll Marathon in 4:24:17.
