RADCLIFFE AC’s Sheila Jones took a superb age-group victory at the Blackburn Winter Warmer.

The Vet65 was among five club members in the 670-strong field at Sunday’s popular 10k.

Jones clocked 50mins 13secs on the challenging course which takes runners up the notorious Buncer Lane hill.

Also running were Paula Abernethy, who was fourth V55 in 51:13, Karen Doherty (1:03:19), Sarah Rushton (1:09:25) and Natalie Hitchen (1:13:27).

Jones was presented with a cash prize, while all the runners received a medal and a goody bag which contained gloves and a microwave pan.

Radcliffe runners were also out in force at the popular Saturday morning 5k parkruns.

Gary Adkins was fifth in 19:54 at Bolton parkrun’s 11th anniversary event, Mark Williams was 20th in 23:02 and Kris Booth clocked 24:23 to finish 28th. Also running were Alison Howarth (third VW50 30:22) and Elaine Bailey (second VW65 31:45).

At Heaton parkrun, Rob Shiels was 18th in 19:38, Jenny Yates was first VW55 in 21:10 and Sheila Jones had another great run, claiming first VW65 in 22:57. Stephen Crowe ran 28:49, Caroline Malone clocked 31:07 and Bev Quinton finished in 40:46.

Junior Robbie Parkinson contended with grim conditions at Fell Foot parkrun in the Lake District, finishing 46th out of 113 runners in 26:42.

Meanwhile, Tracy Wroe ran 32:23 at Worsley Woods and Sarah Jackson clocked 35:38 at York.
