RADCLIFFE Athletic Club’s Neal Emmerson finished a superb second at the Wigan Half Marathon.

The V40 clocked 1hr 14mins 53secs on the route which starts in Wigan town centre before taking runners past landmarks such as the DW Stadium, Wigan Pier and the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.

More than 600 people completed the course, which includes a climb to Haigh Hall, with Emmerson finishing two minutes and 14 seconds clear of the third-placed athlete to win a £75 voucher.

The club had expected a good turnout at Bolton 5k, but the race, the first in this year’s Central Lancashire Grand Prix championship, was cancelled due to Covid.

However, five members took part in the Two Crosses Challenge which started and finished in Greenmount and was organised by the East Lancashire Long Distance Walkers Association.

Runners and walkers could enter either a 17 or 25-mile route which both took in the Roman Cross at Affetside and Pilgrim’s Cross on Holcombe Moor. Helen Andrews, Kathryn Davies, Sheila McNulty, Kris Lee and Lee Cooper all completed the 25-mile challenge.

Lee Turner took to the hills at the Heptonstall Fell Race in West Yorkshire, finishing in 3:05:00. The route in the Upper Calder Valley covers approximately 15 miles and has more than 3,000 feet of climbing.

Mia Derbyshire was the sixth woman at the Run Heaton Park Half Marathon, crossing the line in 1:41:13. Meanwhile, Gail Champion was pleased with her time of 1:01:24 at the Run Heaton Park 10k. Returning to fitness, she was third VW45.

Several Radcliffe runners were in action again in the popular Saturday morning 5k parkruns.

At Heaton Park, Jenny Yates was seventh woman and first VW55 in a personal-best time of 20:49, while Sheila Jones was first VW65 in 23:00. Neil Greenhalgh ran 23:09, Jen Entwistle clocked 36:42 and Iain Harris finished in 38:39.

Rob Shiels clocked 19:24 in fifth place at Worsley Woods, followed by Tracy Wroe in 33:04 and Craig Ward in 34:19.

Elsewhere, Brad Holmes was sixth at Alexandra parkrun in 18:45, Mark Williams ran 24:49 at Bolton, Bex Quinton clocked 37:58 at Fleetwood Promenade and Rob Lister timed 21:34 at Preston.
