THERE were some fantastic performances from Bury AC’s younger athletes at the Trafford Medal Meeting at the Longford Park stadium on Saturday.

For the under-11 boys, Harrison Burgess put together a great string of results, winning the 75m and 150m in personal bests of 12secs and 23.92 respectively. He just missed a PB in the 600m, taking fourth in 2:03.50.

Henry Cooper and Max Sayers also set new bests in the 75m of 12.60 and 13.85 respectively, with Henry also wining the long jump with 3.14m.

Cooper later recorded 2:13.46 in the 600m, with Sayers crossing the line in 2:29.97.

Bury had two u11 girls in the 600m with Lois Green taking third (2:20.06) and Sienna Jackson fifth (2:23.04).

For the u13 girls, Lois Wormald won her 75m heat in a new best of 10.61, while Gabriella Idoko took second in her heat with a PB of 10.88.

The girls also competed over 150m, taking second place in their respective races in 21.39 and 22.26.

Wormald also competed in the javelin, taking second place with a new best throw of 16.51.

For the boys, Oliver Cooper was the sole Bury representative but took three first places - winning the high jump (1.32), the shot (7.50) and the javelin (31.00). Cooper remains the only u13 boy in the UK to have thrown the javelin in excess of 30 metres so far this year.

Blessing Idoko was the only Bury competitor in the u15 age group and she represented the club with pride, winning the 100m in 12.85, taking second in the 200m (26.51) and long jump (4.56 PB). It is worthy of note that Idoko’s 100m time currently ranks her third in the UK.

On Saturday evening, Matthew Garside competed at the Podium 5k at Barrowford and took 19th in the D race. He was delighted with his time of 16mins 57secs - the second time he has ducked inside 17 minutes.
