SEVERAL Bury AC runners recorded new best times at the Salford 10k.

Luke Harreld was the first home for Bury, covering the course in 34mins 57secs to take 44th place, while Jordan Harreld made in a one-two for the family finishing as second club athlete in a new personal best of 36:01 to finish 57th overall. He is looking forward to breaking the 36-minute barrier soon.

Jon Evans was hot on Jordan’s heels with 36:06 for 58th, with Matthew Garside clocking a new PB of 36:10 for 60th in a close finish with team-mate Conor Wilkinson, who also set a new best of 36:11 in 61st.

Paul Johnston finished in 88th, recording 37:44 and Peter Barrow set a new PB of 38:28 to cross the line in 103rd.

Dan Potts was also delighted to set a new lifetime best, recording 38:47 in 107th.

Katie Geelan was first V45 woman finisher in 39:46, with Rachel Marshall Bury’s next finisher with 41:47. Freya Potts was the first under-17 woman, recording 42:37 with Jenny Yates second V55 finisher with 43:23.

Anthony Hallahan recorded 45:13 in 213th and Colin Smith took 242nd in 46:52, just ahead of Beverley McAuley, who ran 47:06. Susan Wheeldon-Gorst completed the course in 48:48 and Afroditi Kalambouka set a season’s best of 54:43.

The previous weekend a number of Bury’s younger athletes competed at the Warrington AC open meeting.

Under-11 Sammy McBride-Duerden set a new PB of 11.8s to take third in his 75m race, while Evie Elliott set a new lifetime best of 13.9 to take second in her u15 100m heat.

Henry Cooper set a PB of 80.7 in the u11s 400m, where he took third in his heat, while McBride-Duerden also competed over 400m and set a best of 83.0 to finish fourth.

Ella Straffon-Finch took sixth in her 400m, stopping the clock at 91.8, while Evie was back on the track for the 75m hurdles and she set another PB of 12.3 to take second.

Oliver Cooper took third in the u13 high jump with 1.30 with brother Henry taking the same place in the u11 long jump with a best leap of 3.03.

Oliver then won the shot competition with 7.26 and then made it a double win in his best event, the javelin, where he is currently ranked number one in the UK, where he launched the spear out to 29.90.
