RADCLIFFE will host National League side Barnet in the fourth round of the FA Trophy after Tuesday night’s historic 4-0 win against Redditch, writes Kieran Wilson.

Two first half goals from Jamie Morgan and late goals from Jordan Hulme and second-half substitute Luca Navarro meant Boro reached the fourth round of the competition for the first time in the club’s history.

Radcliffe came flying out of the traps with Hulme and Josh Hancock both going close in the early exchanges.

And that early pressure paid off when Jude Oyibo’s pass found Hulme whose effort was well saved by Adam Harrison, but the ‘keeper had no chance of stopping Morgan on the rebound.

Redditch went close to levelling the tie when Reece Flanagan’s long-range effort cannoned off the inside of the post and deflected away from any danger.

But Boro doubled their lead in the 34th minute when Morgan scored his second of the game and fourth of the competition. Oyibo was again the provider and Morgan fired home at the second attempt after his initial effort was blocked.

Redditch were then given a mountain to climb when, two minutes before the break, star forward Alex Cameron was shown a straight red card after an off-the-ball incident was spotted by the linesman.

The second half was played at a slower pace seemingly, with both outfits only able to test the opposing goalkeeper on limited occasions - Boro No.1 Mateusz Hewelt a mere spectator for a large part of the tie.

The introduction of Navarro allowed Radcliffe to step up a gear late on in the contest, after entering the fray in the 63rd minute. The attacking midfielder had two chances to score after coming on, the first when he turned on the spot and fired goalwards but struck just wide of the post. The second was a delightful, floated attempt which took the full length of Harrison to tip it over the crossbar.

But it was third time lucky for Navarro as he made it 3-0 to all but end the game as a contest. A short corner was worked to the substitute on the edge of the area through Sargent which set Navarro up to send a powerful left-footed shot that nestled into the bottom corner, this time out of the ‘keepers reach.

As the clock ticked down, Hulme extended the home side’s advantage only three minutes after Navarro’s finish, putting the icing on the Radcliffe cake after a blistering display on home soil.

The number nine was played in down the right side of the box by Navarro and placed his shot below Cameron, who was unable to prevent the ball from crossing the line and after two minutes of stoppage time, the referee’s whistle sounded which confirmed Boro’s place in the fourth round for the first time ever.

Radcliffe will now host Barnet at the Neuven Stadium in the fourth round, with the tie scheduled to be played the weekend of Saturday, January 13.

NPL Premier Division leaders Boro are back on league duty on Saturday in a highly-anticipated top-of-the-table clash against second-placed Warrington Rylands at the Neuven Stadium.
