Prestwich Heys hopes of pushing forward their North West Counties League Premier Division promotion ambitions have been frustrated by the weather in the past week.

The persistent rain put paid to last Saturday’s trip to Kendal Town and then Tuesday night’s home game with Longridge Town was also called off due to a waterlogged pitch at Adie Moran Park.

While Heys have been inactive on the pitch there has been some activity off it with the club signing Jack McConnell from fellow Premier Division side Cheadle Town.

McConnell is a versatile left sided player who was a member of the Cheadle side that earned promotion from Division One South last season. He has also been a regular for them this season making 28 appearances - the last of which was against Heys in our 2-1 win over Cheadle a fortnight ago.

Heys have not been the only team left kicking their heels in recent weeks meaning cancellations have not affected their position in the table as they remain fourth in the table as they prepare for the Christmas and New year period which can prove a defining period in shaping how the rest of the season might unfold.

After a slow start to the season Heys have lost only twice in their last sixteen League games taking thirty-six points in the process. With crunch games at Bury and Wythenshawe on the horizon these next few weeks could prove significant to Heys promotion challenge.

Heys will be hoping to return to action this Saturday they host Lower Breck in a League fixture at Adie Moran Park (3pm). The Merseyside outfit currently sit eleventh in the table and whilst they have struggled for consistency they have defeated Bury and third placed Chadderton this season. Heys however, did pick up three points when the sides met in September with a 5-2 win at the Anfield Sports Centre.

Meanwhile, Heys Macron Cup tie 3rd Round tie at Irlam has been re-arranged for Tuesday 2nd January (7.45pm) as their hosts are involved in the FA Vase this weekend.
