Radcliffe Athletics Club kicked off the Easter weekend in style on Good Friday with a huge turnout for the annual Salford 10k, organised by the Salford Harriers.

The fast, flat, two-lap course is popular with local running clubs and is always a sell-out, this year being no exception.

The 34-strong yellow and black swarm were led in by Christian Peters (MSen) in an incredible personal-best time of 35mins 44secs, closely followed by Gary Adkins (M40), in 37:31, Andrew O’Donnell (MSen), in 38:53, Robin Shiels (M45), in 39:50, and Mark Garner (M50), in 42:08.

Leading home the ladies was Emma Horner (FSen) in a fantastic 44:40 followed by Mia Derbyshire (FSen), in 47:50, Charlene Leyden (F40), in 49:40, Sheila Jones (F65), in 49:43, finishing second in her age category, and Chemane Golding (F35), in 52:01.

Just down the road in Egerton, and raising money for Bolton Hospice, were Laura Aiken and Paul Stevens.

They were taking part in the popular Smithy’s Charity 5-Mile Trail Race with amazing finisher prizes on offer. They finished in 1:03:50 and 52:24, respectively, and were awarded with cake, beer, a medal and a buff.

Easter Saturday saw both the juniors and seniors in action at the Rivington Pike Fell Race.

The race is the second in the Run the Moors Grand Prix and sees runners taking on a classic 5.2km out-and-back, with more than 800 feet of ascent.

Kicking things off in the junior under-11 Pike race were Skyler Parry (10:31), Benjamin Tighe (10:49) and Poppy Aiken (11:06).

Duncan Whalley was in action in the U17 race in 17:35, ably supported by the U11s cheering him on.

First in for the seniors, in 25:04, was MV45 Craig Norman, followed by Lee Turner (MV55), in 28:21, Neil Greenhalgh (MSen), in 28:34, Mark Garner (MV50), in 28:41, Ethan Malone (MSen), in 32:10, and Brennan Tighe (MV50), in 33:27.

First female over the line was Alison Howarth (FV50), in 35:13, followed by Emma Wolstencroft (FV50), in 36:48, and Charlotte Holden (FSen), in 36:52.

In action on Easter Sunday was Dave Bartlett taking on the single loop Hale Village Five-Mile Race and finishing in a very respectable 42:30.

Up on Holcombe Moor, Annette and Warren Simmens were tackling The Sunnywood Project’s Everest Challenge, attempting to climb ‘Everest’ by doing repeated ascents of Holcombe Hill.

The pair set off at dusk and finished 11 hours and 52 minutes later with a magnificent 80 ascents between them - A truly epic achievement.
