There was a good turnout from Bury athletes at the Salford 10k road race on Good Friday, much to the delight of endurance coach Ian Warrington.

The course comprises of two quite flat laps, starting and finishing at Salford Sports Village, on Littleton Road.

The first Bury athlete to finish was Callum Gaunt, taking 30th place in 34mins 48secs.

Luke Harreld was next to finish, crossing the line in 38th place in 35:08, and holding off Byron Edwards by just two seconds in a sprint to the line.

Jack Griffiths, who had been up near the front of the field, pulled up feeling lacklustre, while next to finish was Matthew Garside, taking 91st place in 37:55.

Sinead Taylor had an excellent run, taking fifth woman’s place in 38:14, with Alia Braithwaite not far behind, crossing the line in 38:45 to take third place in the women’s V35 category.

Jenny Badger, running for her first claim club of Prestwich, completed the course in 40:23, while Alex Leach was delighted with his new personal-best time of 40:35 and can soon expect to dip under 40 minutes with his commitment to training.

Sarah Flett ran strongly to take sixth in the V35 category with 41:37, while Beverley McAuley and Nicola Ryan ran the course together, crossing the line in 46:07 and 46:08, respectively.

On Saturday, five club members competed at the legendary Rivington Pike Fell Race.

Declan Tattersall took 77th place, covering the tough 3.25-mile course in 24:00.

Giles Bennett crossed the line in 25:03 in 98th place, but was eighth in the V55 category, while Ian Warrington placed 107th in 25:11.

Afroditi Kalambouka recorded 33:52 and was 317th, and Sarah Withers placed 368th with 37:47.
