Bury’s first fixture in the Mid Lancs Track and Field League in Carlisle saw Ben Clarke win the under-15 boys’ javelin by a huge margin.

His best throw of 47.64m was a new personal best and moves him to second in the UK as well as qualifying him for the English Schools’ Championships, delighting coach, John Conroy. Faye Gribbin was fourth in the U15 girls’ 800m with 2:34 - a season’s best.

Three Bury youngsters competed at the Warrington Open Meeting, where U13, Ethan Statham, made his debut over 1500m and completely destroyed the field. His time of 4:55.08 ranks him seventh in the UK currently. There was also a one-two in the U17 women’s 80m hurdles. Jemima Miles was the winner in a season’s best of 12.47, with Evie Elliott second, with 12.80, in her first year in the age group. The times place both girls in the top 15 in the country.

Trafford’s Medal Meeting saw U15 combined events specialist, Oliver Cooper, win the discus with a new PB of 28.41. He then went on to take third in the javelin with 31.21. Matilda Nott won the U13 girls’ 150m in a PB of 22.06. She also took third in the 75m with a new best of 11.23 and fifth in the long jump, with 3.44. U20 Harvey Rossington-Rose took third in his 100m in a season’s best of 11.90. He then took fourth in his 200m in another season’s best of 24.27. U15 Agatha Wragg won her 300m heat in a PB of 45.96 and also took third in her 100m, in 14.73, just one place ahead of Laila Musvramhiri, who set a season’s best of 15.09. Kathryn Wolstenholme set a PB of 2:57.08 to take eighth in the U13 girls’ 800m. For the U11s, Mylah Collier set a new PB of 2:07.81 to take fifth in her 600m, while Isabella Nott set a new best of 2:17.02 to take second in her 600m. The duo also competed over 75m with both setting new PBs; Mylah taking third in her heat in 12.23 and Isabella taking fourth in hers in 13.83.

Ten Bury members completed the Manchester Marathon with Callum Gaunt first local home in 2:49:25, taking more than five minutes off his previous best.
