Radcliffe's ladies were out in force in two mid-distance races last weekend.

In the Ladies 5-mile Trail Race at Worsley Woods, Charlene Leyden was the first of five Radcliffe ladies over the line in 42mins 11secs. She was closely followed by Karen Wells in 43:45, in this 32nd edition of the ladies-only trail race put on by Swinton Running Club, taking in the largest conservation area of Salford. Also running at Worsley were Lucie Tighe (48:05), Tracy Wroe (54:39), and Grace Williams (56:46).

Radcliffe ladies also had three athletes at It’s a Piece of Cake 10km race at the urban woodland of Boggart Hole Clough. Sheila Jones once again excelled in her age group (F60), coming in a fantastic second place in 52:33. Jones was followed by Emma Wolstencroft, in 59:13, and Laura Aiken, in 63:20.

The male athletes also had cause to celebrate. Across the Irish Sea, Radcliffe member, Christian Peters, had his cake and ate it at the Belfast City Marathon. Coming in the top five per cent of all finishers in a rapid 2:56:46 - another new personal best as he goes from strength to strength in the 26.2-mile distance.

Elsewhere, Adam Wills ran the four-mile Astley Park Trail Race in 27:28, while Rob Lister marked his 300th parkrun at Crichton with a time of 21:15.

Junior athlete Benji also had a significant parkrun milestone last weekend, bagging his 10th rarkrun, with a PB to boot, whizzing around Peel Park in 35:14.
