A late penalty condemned Radcliffe to a narrow defeat against Mossley, bringing the Boro's unbeaten pre-season run to an end despite another encouraging display.
Radcliffe made a bright start and created the first opportunity of the afternoon on the seven-minute mark.
Mossley's goalkeeper attempted to launch the ball upfield, but his clearance struck the foot of Jordan Hulme and fell kindly into the path of Max McCarthy.
The forward struck first time, forcing the goalkeeper into a smart save to tip the effort over the crossbar.
After a spell of possession for the hosts, Radcliffe threatened again.
A long pass from Lois Maynard picked out Hulme, who showed great determination to reach the ball first before squaring it across the penalty area.
McCarthy met the cross with a first-time effort, but his strike drifted narrowly wide of the target.
Five minutes later, Ben Collins then produced a powerful run down the left, driving into the Mossley half while shrugging off a series of challenges.
The full-back found Hulme, who held off his marker before laying the ball back into the path of McCarthy.
His first-time strike from the edge of the area was well saved by the Mossley goalkeeper to agonise the Boro once more.
As half-time approached, Rio Clegg was played through inside the area for the final attack of the first 45 minutes.
Last season's top goalscorer worked an opening for himself but could only fire his effort high and wide.
Radcliffe made ten changes at the interval, with Tom Donaghy the only player to remain on the pitch for the second half to complete his first full 90 minutes for Bernard Morley's side.
The Boro continued to look dangerous after the restart.
Kyle Hawley raced onto a through ball with the Mossley goalkeeper stranded off his line, but the shot-stopper recovered quickly to deny the new signing before he could get his shot away.
Later in the half, Hawley again found space after latching onto a long ball into the corner.
He picked out Sargent arriving on the edge of the area, and after a clever one-two with Greenfield, the Welshman found himself through on goal.
However, a superb last-ditch challenge diverted his effort behind for a corner.
Mossley began to grow into the contest and came close when one of their forwards created space inside the area before curling an effort towards goal.
Donaghy appeared beaten, but the shot drifted agonisingly wide of the far post.
With just minutes remaining, the hosts were awarded a penalty.
Charlie Frost turned smartly inside the penalty area before being challenged by Smith, with the referee ruling the defender's challenge to be a foul.
Frost stepped up from 12 yards and powered his penalty into the bottom-right corner.
Donaghy got a hand to the effort, but he could not keep it out as Mossley snatched a late winner.
Radcliffe return to action on Friday when they travel to the Isle of Man to face Shrewsbury as preparations continue ahead of the new National League North season, which begins on August 8 against Spalding United at the Neuven Stadium.
