Anthony Johnson is relishing another tough test against Warrington Ryland as his Bury side aim to build on their dramatic midweek victory against Curzon Ashton.
The Shakers have taken four points from their opening couple of games, despite facing two of the early promotion favourites in Johnson’s opinion.
The boss also expects Rylands to be competing at the top end of the table, having reached the play-off final last term, but Johnson remains focused on what his own squad can do.
“We have ticked off second favourites, we've just ticked off third favourites, and we're going against fourth favourites on Saturday,” he said. “We have had a good start to the season, it’s a really tough league.
“A good friend of mine manages Rylands, Neil Reynolds, and they were one minute away from promotion to the National League North last season.
“They are a really good side - totally different so far to Redcar and Curzon – but every test it different. It will be a tough game but they all are, you will hear me say that every week this season.
“But we are a good side and I think the opposition are thinking about us being a tough game as well, so we are excited about the game.”
Bury will carry momentum into Saturday’s game following the late drama of Mitch Allen’s penalty save on Tuesday night.
“You would rather it be this way round than where you have started well and they caught up a little bit,” Johnson added.
“We have talked about momentum loads and it is huge for us as a team. The excitement at the end, the supporters, the players, everyone is buzzing in there and you just want it to carry on for Saturday.
“But we just have to get through Thursday night training first with the amount of injuries we have got!”
