There were convincing wins from M Hulme, 88-43, and Dean Alston, 87-48.

The local derby at Radcliffe Central went the way of the A team, thanks chiefly to Paul Gallagher, who won his frame 103-49. The B team gained some consolation in the final frame with C Nicholson’s 81-19 win, but went down 5-3.

Rik Davies was in fine form for Seedfield A who defeated Whitefield A, 5-3. Davies compiled breaks of 37 and 28 in his 93-38 win.

There was some excellent play by Tony Green, 91-52, and G Hickman, 86-45, which helped Whitefield B to a 5-3 win at home to Elton Lib A.

The recurring 5-3 scoreline again featured in the match at Bury Snooker D, against Huntley C. Paul Anderson had put the visitors two up with his 87-37 victory, only for the home side to recover through James Fletcher’s 112-29, a frame in which his opponent did not pot a ball.

The snooker club were still behind on aggregate, but skipper, Mark Turner clinched the match points with his final frame 64-31.

In the Irwell Street Metals A Section, Elton Lib C went into joint second spot with a 7-1 win over Stanley A. Wayne Howarth notched a 25 to help him take the opening frame, but the best performance came from Alan Brooks, 98-51, which included a 33 break.

Huntley A continue to struggle to recapture their 2008 form, going down 6-3 at home to Salisbury. Weaver, 85-48, and Rammy, 84-55, put the visitors into a strong position, and despite Phil Jones winning the final frame 86-52 for the home side, the Sol went away with the match points.

Top performance in the Bury Bed and Pine C Section was Walshaw’s 7-1 home win over Seedfield B. Steve Chant took the last three balls in style to give the visitors the first frame. But this was to prove their only success. Darren Gilmore recorded a 36 break in his 95-46 frame, while Dave Long rediscovered some of his form in a final frame 87-39.

The battle for top spot is the tightest in all three sections. Stanley B assumed the mantle this week, overcoming last week’s leaders, St Mary’s, 6-2, in a match, much closer than the score suggests. St Mary’s took the first two frames, and a lead of 37 chalks. Despite the home side winning all the remaining four frames, they only secured the aggregate points with Dave Holt’s final frame 58-36.

Central C went second, with a 6-2 home win over Bury Bridge, Barry Mason ensuring the points with his final frame 65-29. Best win of the match was the visitor’s John Holt, 79-32, despite originally turning up at Ramsbottom, rather than Radcliffe!

Tottington A came away from Huntley B with a 7-2 win, thanks mainly to Paul Christie’s 79-21 frame.
