HOCKEY: Elton Jaguars went down 1-0 to County Ladies with only 10 players in the Bolton Ladies Hockey League Davenport Cup.

The Jaguars were kept in the game by the heroics of goalkeeper Catherine Somerville until the more experienced County Ladies broke the deadlock with a deflected shot from Alison Howarth.

Fiona Lyssejko was a lonely figure up front for Jaguars while their defence of Louise Brand, Hannah Close, and Jade Robinson were outstanding under pressure.

Jaguars fared better in their league clash with Elton Brook in which they twice came from behind before winning 4-3 to go top of the Second Division.

Brook took a two-goal lead with goals from Watson and Rosie Hanley before Kerry Cameron made the difference for Jaguars up front.

Kerry and Robinson scored to level things before half time.

Brook took the lead again through Watson before Cameron equalised again and Julia Rowlands hit the winner.

Back in the Davenport Cup, Elton Brook went goal crazy in an 8-0 destruction of Bolton Hockey Club’s fourth team.

It took Elton 10 minutes to get the first goal, Becky Richmond putting in an accurate cross to forward Laura Watson who slotted in.

Watson added five more and player-of-the-match Richmond scored twice, including one in which she ran more than half the length of the pitch to score and another from a pass by Melissa Hurst.
