IT is a mouthwatering thought for Bury fans when manager Alan Knill declares there is more to come from his exciting young side.

The Shakers head into Saturday’s FA Cup second round clash with Peterborough at Gigg Lane on the back of two fantastic away victories in the space of a week.

If Friday night’s 3-1 defeat of Burton Albion was good, it got even better against Lincoln City four days later when they won 5-0.

And Knill is hoping that is only the beginning for his promotion-chasing side.

“We are going into the cup game with confidence high,” he said. “I hope there is plenty more to come from this team – all it needs is consistency.

“We are playing top opposition on Saturday, who have some quality players, so it is another opportunity for my players to show what they are capable of.

“It will show us how far we have come and also what we need to do to get better.

“I hope they come forward at us and the game suits us but they also have some top attacking players themselves in Craig Mackail-Smith, George Boyd and Aaron McLean.

“I have watched them live and they go forward really well, they are a really dangerous team.”

Knill is delighted with his free-scoring side, who have already scored a handful of goal-of-the-season contenders just three months into the new campaign.

“We don’t seem to score scruffy goals, they are always really good ones with plenty of movement, passing and pace about them,” he said. “The players deserve so much credit.

“But Tuesday’s result is in the past now and we look forward to the next game, which is an exciting one.

“It is vitally important that we bring in revenue and one of the ways to do that is to go on a cup run. We will be doing our best to turn over a top team.”

One player dreaming of beating the Posh on Saturday is 12-goal striker Ryan Lowe, who is hoping to book a date with his boyhood idols Liverpool.

“It’s a mouthwatering game for us because Peterborough are a good team with some outstanding players – they only came down from the Championship last season,” he said.

“But they will be wary of us and we want to be in the hat for the third round – and draw Liverpool.

“We are not going to win the FA Cup but it would be nice to have a run in it and bring some money in for the club.”

Cameron Belford (broken cheekbone) and Andy Bishop (tendonitis) remain sidelined for the weekend while Steven Schumacher will face a late fitness test after picking up a knock at Lincoln.
