AFTER more than a month without a victory you could forgive Bury’s players if they were showing tired legs, but boss Richie Barker hailed his side’s superior fitness as they left Yeovil with all three points.

It would have been easy for the Shakers to let their heads drop after Kieran Agard put the Glovers in front after just 17 minutes.

But Barker’s boys regrouped and turned the tables with goals from Giles Coke, David Amoo and former Yeovil midfielder Peter Sweeney to lift themselves up to 18th in the table.

And Barker was full of praise for his players’ energy, outlasting their Yeovil counterparts to finally get back that winning feeling.

“I always felt the equaliser would come because we were on top, and to score just before half time was a great time to do it,” he said.

“I said before the game that I felt we were fitter than them, and I’d heard some of their players tire as games go on. So it was important that we were in contention with half an hour to go, and we weren’t just in contention, we commanded it.

“The way we passed the ball as well was excellent, and I can’t say how pleased I am with the performance and the three points.

“We deserved that win and that is as well as we’ve played for a long, long time.”

Bury were without a goal in their last three games, and winless in eight, and things looked like going from bad to worse when Agard opened the scoring with an overhead kick.

But with just two minutes to go until half time, Coke changed all that, levelling with a fizzing drive following a neat one-two with Andy Bishop.

And Barker saw his side go ahead on 67 minutes when on-loan Liverpool striker Amoo powerfully headed home a Sweeney corner, making amends for blazing over the bar minutes earlier.

And Sweeney completed the comeback with five minutes remaining with a neat finish, leaving Barker to claim his charges fully deserved their change of fortune.

“The players were absolutely brilliant and we were only in danger for 15 minutes of the first half when they went ahead against the run of play,” he added.

“But in the second half we were clearly the better side. They hit the post, but this is a hard place to come and play and we were by far the best team, so I’m delighted.

“Our football was excellent from the start of the game, if lacking in penetration, and we then conceded a sloppy goal.

“But to come from a goal down, after the run we’ve been on in the last month, and go on to win comfortably, I can’t speak highly enough of the players.”
