BURY Grammar came into this game on the back of a terrific 4-0 cup victory over Whalley Range; a team that knocked Old Bolts out in the previous round.

The first 20 minutes saw Bury create a number of crossing opportunities through some good link up play down the left, but failed to convert any of this good play into real goal scoring chances; restricted only to long range efforts from Alex Lundy and Brijesh Patel.

After a sustained period of pressure from the Old Bolts attack, Bury went a goal down as a result of some sloppy defending.

An Old Bolts set-piece was flicked on to an unmarked striker, who slotted home from just five yards.

Bury responded well as Lundy went on a mazy run, but ultimately failed to test the Old Bolts keeper as another attack went unrewarded.

Although matching Old Bolts man for man, Bury were 1-0 down at half-time.

After a long range effort from Liam Donnelly whistled past the post early on in the second half, Bury soon found themselves 2-0 down as another set piece was converted by Old Bolts; Bury having two opportunities to clear the ball before it was bundled home from two yards.

Bury did not look like getting back into the game, although they did have a stone-wall penalty turned down with 20 minutes left as Patel was blatantly hacked down inside the area.

Bury were eventually awarded a late penalty, this time for an obvious push on Adam Hudson. Jamie Holt stepped up to slot home a perfect penalty to the goalkeeper’s bottom right, giving Bury a glimmer of hope.

The final whistle sounded soon after as Bury failed to obtain any further possession. Next up for the Old Boys; a must win six pointer as they travel to close rivals Rochdale St Clements.
