WALSHAW moved up to second in the Manchester Premier League with a hard-earned victory in Oldham.

With an unchanged side for the third game running, they were ahead within five minutes.

Avro were struggling to get out of their own half but Walshaw could not make their lion’s share of possession count.

The hosts hauled themselves back into the game on 30 minutes when captain Hampson made a chance out of nothing and finished superbly to level.

Walshaw regained control after the break with Marsh a virtual spectator in the Walshaw goal.

The all important secong goal arrived on 75 minutes when a free-kick from Mark Slater fell to Russell Brierley who expertly fired under the keeper.

Walshaw continued to press and with eight minutes remaning, Jordan Hulme went on a mazy run beating two defenders and scored a fine goal.
