BURY crashed out of the Murray Shield after blowing a perfect start.

They took the lead with their first attack in the first minute when Graham Brotherton’s left wing cross was met on the volley by Peter Hickford. But Beechfield worked their way back into the game and started to find a lot of possession in front of the Bury back four.

With the Bury midfield not working hard enough to break up the Beechfield possession it was only a matter of time before Beechfield equalised.

It happened in the 30th minute when a cross from the right was allowed to land in the box and the ball was fired past keeper Tom Styles.

Beechfield took the lead just before half time when a player was allowed to run half the length of the pitch past at least five Bury players without a single challenge being made and beat the keeper with a neat finish.

Within a couple of minutes of the restart the Beechfield right winger was allowed to cut in, and again, without a challenge being made, beat the keeper with a shot from a narrow angle to make the score 3-1.

With a major fight on their hands to stay in the cup Bury at last started to play some football and won a deserved penalty in the 65th minute when Tino Blake was felled in the area. Peter Hickford stepped up to get Bury back into the match with the penalty that had to be taken twice due to encroachment. The expected onslaught followed as Bury pushed for an equaliser but some slack defending with 10 minutes to go gifted Beechfield their fourth goal.

Saturday Bury are at home to Wilmslow Albion, kick off 2pm. Any players interested in joining the club should contact manager Dennis Hickford on 07880 501916.
