SAM McMahon carried on his rich vein of form in front of goal for Radcliffe Borough, adding three goals in two matches this week to take his tally to five in four games.

But he was unable to inspire them to victory as Boro lost at Glossop in the league on Saturday and at Conference side AFC Fylde on Tuesday in the first round of the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy.

Boro went down 2-1 at Glossop, where Jamie Rainford gave the Evo-Stik Division One North new boys a two-goal advantage inside the hour before McMahon pulled one back from the penalty spot with 22 minutes remaining.

Steve Foster, who was brought down to win the spot-kick, set up a number of chances and also forced the home keeper into a number of telling saves, but the visitors were unable to claim a deserved share of the points.

A sixth defeat of the season in the league left Danny Johnson's men fourth from bottom, but the table does not tell the whole story.

If Boro had been able to convert a few more of their chances they could easily have doubled their points tally in the league.

McMahon, however, looks capable of doing something about that after scoring two more at Fylde in midweek.

Against the odds, Boro went into the break 2-1 up after McMahan gave them a third-minute lead from the penalty spot and put them back in front on 25 minutes with a well-taken shot after Josh Wilson had levelled for the home side.

But an injury to centre-back Kevin McGrath unsettled the visitors and they conceded four times in the second half, with Danny Rowe adding two and Ben Holmes and Akil Wright rounding off the scoring with a goal apiece in the final 10 minutes.
