RADCLIFFE Borough boss Bill Prendergast has promised fans there will be no repeat of last weekend’s horror show against Farsley when they face another promotion contender in Glossop North End on Saturday.

An under-strength Boro side were skilfully picked apart by Farsley in a 5-0 defeat in front of their home supporters.

The match featured two new loan signings in the backline, with both Huddersfield keeper Owen Brooke and Blackburn centre-back Frank Jones thrown in for their debuts.

Farsley front man James Walshaw showed them no mercy, bagging a hat-trick in the first half and going on to add another late in the second period.

“We won’t be beaten 5-0 again this weekend, I can promise you that,” said Prendergast.

“There is no way those players, who suffered so badly in the opening stages against Farsley, will want to experience anything like that again.

“Plans have been put in place this week in training to make sure we do not make those same mistakes again.

“And even though Glossop are another good side, there will be no repeat performance.”

Walshaw out-muscled the Boro defence to head in the opener after five minutes and doubled Farsley’s advantage with a carbon-copy goal midway through the first half.

Prendergast believes Brooke could have dealt with the crosses better and while he says the young stopper must not shoulder the blame for the defeat, he may think twice about throwing him in again this weekend.

“Owen made some very good saves in the match, but he also made some mistakes,” said the Boro boss.

“You have to accept that when you are dealing with young players. We are very grateful to Huddersfield for helping us out, but I have to decide how best to help the young lad’s development.

“Throwing him in again straight away may not be the answer.”

Prendergast is understood to be working on a deal to sign a former Everton keeper ahead of the weekend.

He will also have attacker Lamin Baldeh back from injury, but will be without the suspended Darren Torpey.
