RADCLIFFE started the season with back-to-back wins to hit top spot in the league table.

After winning at Widnes on Saturday Boro beat Clitheroe 4-1 at the Neuven Stadium on Tuesday night.

Radcliffe got off to a great start as Ben Wharton poked home his 60th goal for Radcliffe two minutes in.

Jon Macken’s side continued their bright start tthroughout the half and, after George West forced a save out of the Clitheroe keeper, Wharton put a chance wide. Shelton Payne also went close but shot inches over the bar.

Radcliffe finally doubled their lead in the 65th minute, Payne running onto Scott Metcalfe’s long ball to score.

Clitheroe responded within two minutes as Obi Anoruo pounced on a loose ball in the area.

But Boro restored their two-goal lead in the 89th minute as Tunde Olowabi raced on to Wharton’s through ball and rounded the keeper to roll it in.

A fantastic solo goal from Olowabi completed a good night’s work in the 92nd minute, his run ending with a finish into the top corner from a tight angle.

Following Boro’s opening-day win at newly-promoted Widnes, Wharton and Elliot Rokka getting the goals, Macken’s men top the division.

Wharton was given a tap-in by Payne for the opening goal and Rokka fired in a free kick to double the lead.

Widnes had Michael Grogan sent off right at the end but Radcliffe had been comfortable throughout.

They travel to Prestwich Heys for their FA Cup tie this Saturday.
