RADCLIFFE continue their winning start to the season with a 3-0 win at the Neuven Stadium against Colwyn Bay.

Sweeping Bay aside, Boro’s fourth win from four kept them top of the table.

Radcliffe led two minutes in as Scott Metcalfe’s corner was sent back across goal by George West and Tunde Olowabi got up to glance a header in at the back post.

Minutes later Olowabi turned his man but his shot was turned away by a defender with the keeper beaten.

Colwyn Bay came into the game more and Ollie Martin denied James Barrigan in a one-on-one stand-off.

After a second Owolabi header was ruled out for offside, Colwyn Bay’s Danny Andrews put in a dangerous cross glanced narrowly wide by Danny Bartle. Andrews went close himself with a 30-yard lob after Martin’s clearance but the keeper got back to tip his shot over.

In a bright start to the second half for Radcliffe Elliott Rokka’s ambitious volley from a Scott Metcalfe throw-in was just wide.

But Boro did increase their lead a minute later. Rick Smith headed against the post and was the first to react to the loose ball, hitting it into the roof of the net from close range.

Colwyn Baywent close again just before the hour mark, Barrigan getting his head to a free kick into the box, but Martin produced a great save to keep the game at 2-0.

Martin then had to react well to get down and save a Blake Robinson shot, also smothering the loose ball once he had made the initial stop.

After surviving those scares, Boro sealed their victory 20 minutes from time with a third goal.

Owolabi’s tricky feet saw him brought down in the area and Ben Wharton calmly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way with the resulting penalty.

Boro’s FA Cup gets under way this Saturday with a first qualifying-round tie at home so Stalybridge Celtic, kick off 3pm.
