Bury ended their seven-match losing run with a 2-1 victory at Oxford United in Ryan Lowe's first game in charge.
Two goals in three minutes late in the second half turned the game on its head.
Oxford led through a James Henry goal on the stroke of half time.
Bury looked on course to take their miserable League One sequence to eight defeats in a row and nine without scoring a goal until everything changed in that dramatic three-minute spell.
George Miller equalised on 81 minutes and Harry Bunn scored the winner on 84 minutes which reduced the gap between Bury and safety to 12 points.
