TIM Lees says Bury have to learn how to deal with teams who come to Gigg Lane to kill games off - although he admitted he has never witnessed the extremes Darlaston Town went to in Saturday’s 2-2 draw.
Tempers spilled over in ugly scenes after the full time whistle where the referee dished out five red cards - including to Louis Isherwood and Shakers first team coach Craig Carney.
Both clubs will now wait to see if the Northern Premier League will take any further action.
“I’ve been coaching for 21 years and I’ve never quite seen anything like that,” Lees told the club website. “They had over 20 occasions where they’ve gone down with injuries and the game’s been stopped.
“I didn’t feel as if the officials controlled it at all. That led to what we all saw after the game, which led to five red cards.
“But we’ve got to be able to deal with teams who come in like that and kill the game and time waste...that was an extreme version.”
He added: “I’ve never quite seen as many stoppages in my life, but like I said, it is what it is.”
While Lees was unhappy with what went on after the final whistle, he said his side did enough to win the game but the failure to deal with counter attacks and set pieces proved costly.
Leo Graham and Mo Touray, on his first start, both put the Shakers ahead but they were pegged back on each occasion by goals from Callum Knowles and Leo Gill.
Rustam Stepans could have won it for Bury from the penalty spot but his effort hit the post.
“If you look at the key things for us, we’ve worked the ball into the final third with the front six and not scored,” said Lees. “We said to the lads, you can’t also need to score three goals at home.
“Again, you’ve got to stop counters, you’ve got to be good on set-pieces, and we weren’t. They could have scored two more on set-pieces as well, so it’s something that we’ve got to address.
“We worked really hard on it, but at the same time, there’s only so much you can work on and people have got to want to be able to challenge for the ball in 1v1s.”
Bury travel to Stafford Rangers on Saturday and Lees knows his side will have to take their chances.
“If you look at the game overall, we’ve ended up with 24 shots, they’ve had four,” he said. “We weren’t efficient enough in the final third. We’ve missed the penalty, we’ve had chance after chance.
“It’s really disappointing from that point of view. If you’re creating that many times more shots than the opposition, you should be winning games.”
