BURY have moved quickly to bring in their second signing of the summer with George Glendon joining the Shakers for the forthcoming season.

Following the signing of Anthony Dudley - who returns to Gigg Lane after a decade away - Glendon arrives with an outstanding footballing pedigree, having developed through the academy system at Manchester City, where he captained the club’s Elite Development Squad and represented England national under-17 football team at youth level.

The experienced central midfielder built his senior experience in the EFL with Fleetwood Town and Carlisle United, making more than 70 appearances across League One and League Two football.

Following his move into non-league football, he became one of the standout midfielders in the National League North during his time with Chester FC. Across six seasons with the Blues, he made over 150 appearances, scored more than 20 goals and established himself as club captain, earning widespread praise for his leadership, consistency and quality on the ball.

Most recently, Glendon featured for Radcliffe, making 26 appearances during the 2024/25 season, with his experience and composure in midfield underlining the qualities he will bring to Bury FC.

“When the gaffer rang me, it was an easy decision, Glendon said.

“I want to bring experience to the squad. It’s a young group full of quality, and I’ll do everything I can to help the lads. I already know a few of them, so hopefully I can settle in quickly.

“I like to make the players around me better. I want to get on the ball, make things happen and drive the team forward. I also like getting into the box from midfield and chipping in with as many goals as I can.”

Jonno added, “I don’t say this lightly, but he’s probably the best player I’ve ever managed. You don’t stay at Manchester City until you’re 22 by fluke.

“When you talk about decision-making, doing the right things and getting forward at the right time, that’s exactly what George brings.

“If I was comparing his leadership to someone, it would probably be Oscar Threlkeld. It’s a quiet kind of leadership, he just goes about his business, but he’s a fantastic leader.”
