WHO? Ballard, 32, is a very successful cerebral palsy athlete from Chorley. Has already represented GB at the 2004 and 2008 Paralympic Games in Athens and Beijing. Studying English and maths at Runshaw College while training in Horwich.

IN THE GB TEAM? Should be given the nod by GB selectors after an impressive winter in which he shaved a full second off his 200m personal best. Ranked number two in the 200m and fourth for 100m in the T36 classification. The former Chorley AC athlete has performed admirably despite seeing his funding stopped by UK Athletics.

MEDAL? Ballard is set to retire from the international stage after London 2012 and would love to go out in style. He clinched a 200m bronze medal at the Athens Olympics eight years ago and, on current form, will fancy his chances of making the podium once again.

QUOTE: Graeme has done really well in indoor competitions this winter and improved on his PB’s in both the 200m and 60m. He would love to go out on a high at London. (Quotes from Mum Barbara)
