A cat rescue service that works across Bury and Bolton has shared its "devastation" as rising costs could close the charity and "undo our hard work".
Kitty Rescue Bury has called for urgent help after revealing the charity has less than £800 to care for the growing number of stray, re-homed and feral cats.
The cost of living crisis is said to have played a huge role in the number of injured and abandoned pets in the area as well as owners not paying to neuter their pets.
Chantelle Farrow, a volunteer at Kitty Rescue Bury, said: “We let our hearts rule our heads and took in more than we should have.
“We pick up where other charities cant but right now, we have over 100 families wanting to re-home their pets and because of increasing costs, we are seeing more and more pets not being neutered.

“This means abandoned cats are fighting more and the population of cats in the area has been growing fast so it has been really hard to keep up.”
In January, £11,000 was spent on vet bills for rescue cats and an extra £6,000 from the start to mid-February.
Kitty Rescue has urged anyone wanting to neuter their cat to get in contact even if they may be worried about costs.
Chantelle said that although they have been struggling financially, they couldn’t leave injured or dying cats and wanted to help.
She said: “If we close, all our hard work could be undone.
“We feed over 100 feral cats that we aren’t able to rehome and help to pick up where other rescue charities cant but we are in dire need of help.”
The group was officially formed in 2018 and operates through foster volunteers around Bury and Bolton.

Due to its financial situation, Kitty Rescue says they no longer have the funds to carry on or to help more cats.
Chantelle said: “We never want the reason we can't take a cat in to be because of funds but we are beyond that point now.
