A "small army" of volunteers have been targeting litter “grot spots” in Bury to make the borough a cleaner place to live.

On Saturday, February 11, Keep Bury Clean joined forces with Beechfield Brands staff to spruce up their premises at Silverpoint Business Centre on Moor Street.

The group also had help from Mcdonald's and Fisherman’s Way and were able to collect over 80 bags of litter from all the streets surrounding Silverpoint.

Keep Bury Clean chair Jane Edyvean said: “There’s a small army of volunteer litter pickers across Bury with individual groups running, in Radcliffe as well as Clean Team Prestwich, Tottington Litter Pickers and Litter Picking Ramsbottom.

“Keep Bury Clean then pick up all the areas in between.”

Over the weekend, the group also cleared the footpath from Moor Street into the Tesco car park and the underpass and green space along Peel Way.

Jane said: “We also made a huge dent in the litter down the path at the back of Tesco down to the new fire station.”

Next weekend, the group will be turning their attention to Clarence Park, the Lido and all streets that lead off Walmersley Road to Milner Avenue.

They will be meeting at the Lido car park at 11am.

Jane added: “Our group picks for March will hopefully be covering Goshen Woods, parts of Pilsworth and Roch Valley, Gypsy Brook and other known 'grot spots' that our members then endeavour to keep clean with regular visits.”
