A man was robbed after being “set up by a group of masked men” when arranging to sell an electronic bike.

Bury neighbourhood crime team officers are investigating the crime, which happened on the night of Tuesday, December 5 in Prestwich.

The incident began in the area of Wiseman Terrace, and Upper Wilton Street, and continued around the junction of Heywood Road and Rectory Lane.

Police say the victim, who was travelling in a white transit van, had arranged to sell an electronic bike, and upon his arrival at the agreed location was “set up on by a group of masked males”.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Bury North said: “We would like to ask any residents in these locations to check their Ring door bells and CCTV between 10pm and 10.30pm on December 5 for anything which may assist our investigation.

“Similarly, anybody who was travelling through these areas and may have witnessed the incident or have any dashcam footage are encouraged to get in touch.

“You can send any footage to PC Hubbard at 18009@gmp.police.uk, or alternatively you can contact the office on 0161 8568222.

“If you would like to provide any information anonymously then this can be done via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 3406-05122023.

“We understand that people are increasingly using social media to sell unwanted items.

“If the buyer insists on meeting in a location that is unfamiliar to you and the offer seems a little bit too good to be true, then please proceed with caution or consider withdrawing from the sale completely.”
