Travellers who have parked up at a Ramsbottom park have been told to leave in the next couple of days.

A number of vehicles, caravans and vans arrived at one of the car parks of Nuttall Park on Thursday.

Bury Council has issued a notice for the group to leave the land with Greater Manchester Police stating they have been told "they will be gone by Monday".

A spokesperson for Bury Council said: “Officers have begun the legal processes required to remove them from the council-owned land they are occupying.”

A GMP spokesperson added: "The council have been to issue their notice and have been told they will be gone by Monday.”

In a post on social media on Thursday, Cllr Gareth Staples Jones said: “Members of the travelling community are at Nuttall Park.

"The council is aware, security is on site and the police have been informed.

“There are a number of things that need to happen in order to move them on legally - that process has begun.

“It’s not for me to judge someone’s lifestyle, and certainly a person will have my respect and trust until they abuse it.

“That being said, if there is vandalism to the park the police and council will be carrying out their obligations to enforce the law.”
